The CLAIRE Methodology

Claire-smCLAIRE in Outlander deals with many different kinds of people and sometimes those interactions can get problematic.  The CLAIRE Method teaches you what to do when those online interactions get a bit dicey.

Stay Calm – getting yourself worked up is what the bully wants you to do. Stay calm, keep a cool head.

The best way to do this is to Laugh it off. You don’t have to reply to the bully that you are laughing; just understand that what this bully is doing is trying to get you to go down to their level and participate in a sandbox war. You don’t want to participate.

Do not Argue back with them. That’s what they want you to do. You need to walk away.

One of the first things you should do whenever joining any social media platform or website is to Inform yourself on how to report harassment and people who break the rules of the site.

If you are bullied immediately Report the harassment if you feel threatened On Social Media there is usually a pull down menu on the bullies post that will allow you to immediately notify the company that this person is misbehaving and breaking the rules.

We suggest that if you are offered the option to Block or Mute that you choose MUTE over blocking. Blocking gives the bully notification that you have seen their post and are trying to avoid them. Sometimes that makes them angrier and they will create another account on the site to come back and harass you even more.

Then Exit the conversation and if you are feeling tense or upset, close out the website or app and go do something you enjoy to get your mind off of things. Go rewatch your favourite episode of Outlander for example.
